I'm trying to import an .avi file (divx) into DVD architect pro 5.0b but I am not able to get any audio, only the video is showing up in the timeline.
When highlighting the file in Architect's browser under audio it says "Stream attributes could not be determined" but I am able to play the file just fine in my media player and also Gspot says I have the correct codecs installed.
The audio of the avi file is mp3 (tried cbr & vbr files), but I have also tried avi files that have AC3 audio and I get the same results. I am also able to import plain mp3 files directly into Architect and they show up in the timeline and play fine.
Also I can get audio just fine with .mov and .wmv videos but nothing with .avi files.
Is there an FFDshow setting somewhere I need to fix?

since architect is a dvd authoring program you might try encoding the file to dvd spec mpeg2 and ac3 before importing.

I'm having the same problem with .mpg (mpeg 2) videos. But it only happens with some of them.
Some have sound. All are rendered the exact same way with the same application (Power Director 7) -
petersm2 - hard to say, avi is such a generic word for a lot of formats. maybe use wav audio instead of mp3.
maybe get a different authoring app? i only use dvd-lab pro for output from lots of different programs and have very few problems. [edit] since dvdlab is just an authoring program(it doesn't do any encoding for the main movie) i only import dvd spec mpeg-2 and dvd spec audio into it. [/edit] -
Every version of DVDA Pro that I've used has the same bug / feature. 4.5 is the latest I have.
Sometimes it will pick up the sound in the (mostly .mpg) file and sometimes it won't. Doesn't seem to matter what audio format.
DVDA Pro will render the audio to AC3 if you tell it to, but the audio needs to be in the timeline in the first place.
My workaround is to use DGIndex to demux the audio and then load it into the timeline.
If the audio file has the same name (with a different extension) and is in the same directory as the video file, DVDA Pro will automagically load it when you add the video.
Mostly, I just need to get the work completed and out, so I haven't taken the time to figure out why. -
What software would you recommend for doing this? I've tried TMPGEnc but I can't get it to work in W7. Do different eccoders give different quality?
it's up to you, since you have sony architect, do you also have vegas? if not there is the free hcenc and hcbatchgui, mediacoder is highly adjustable, avidemux works and others.--

Well I was able to demux the file and Architect loaded both the video and audio fine, but now after I save the project and open it again it tells me the video file is not the right type and I have to delete it and bring it in again...every time. So I think I'm done with Sony Architect, I'm going to try encoding my file seperately and using some other authoring program. Thanks for all the help though.
