  1. Ok here's how it goes...
I shot a video using my SONY digital camcorder
Used Premiere to capture that to friend's VAIO via firewire.
20 min AVI file came out to almost 2 gigs!
Used Virtualdub 1.4.9 to convert that avi to divx following the instructions shown here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm
    worked fine on his laptop.
But then i tried converting in VDub on my comp...to speed up the process.
But VDub wont even open the avi file.
It gives me this following error message.
"Couldnt locate decompressor for format 'dsvd' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress the video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

So i DLed a VFW codec...still the same thing. I DUnno what to do now

Are there any other any other way of doing this straight thru premier?
I wanna have the video (over an Hour) to take up less then 2 gb...with the best quality possible.

Thanks in advance. I'm a newbie at this...

  2. VirtualDub doesn't support DV AVI directly. To open DV AVI in VirtualDub do the following:

Make a new file with notepad and give it any name and make sure it has an AVS extension. On the first line type:

    DirectShowSource("path to your AVI file.avi")

In VirtualDub click on file->open video->select the *.avs file you just created and then manipulate the video as you wish.

    Thanx

  3. tried that. now it file saved as avi was called test01.avi.
created the .avs file and put
DirectShowSource("h:\test01.avi") in first line as suggested.
Now when i open the .avs file thru VDub it says Cannot determine file type of "H:\test01.avs"
