The Pioneer had composite in from the analog cable box and component out to to the TV, the Panny antenna in from the analog cable box and s-video to the TV.

Did you try to switch connections between these machines just to make sure that it does not play part in test ?

No, I didn't try reversing the connections, but with this setup, the Pioneer is getting the better signal path. My reasoning is that the better signal path would allow better performance from the Pioneer.

There is an error with this info, because they do not list the DV Input in the spec table along with the other A/V inputs, but instead list the 3 video inputs. The reality of it is 2 video inputs (IN1 and IN2) and 1 DV input. This makes me question their information and leads me to believe that they simply copied this info from the ES10 specs.

A new Panasonic combo is at Circuit City too. The DMR-ES40V for $284.99. The ES30 and ES40 are similar on the back panel. Looks like the DVD component and composite outputs are one above the other unlike the ES30 in which the DVD composite output is below and to the right of the component output. A DV input is located in a small drop down panel below the stop and play buttons on the front panel.

The power consumption of the ES40 is 29W vs 31W for the ES30. The ES20 consumes 22W vs 23W for the ES10.
