  1. When using Reauthor in Shrink, after dragging main movie over, shows two titles, exactly same size and time.

Look exactly the same when played in the shrink preview window. I thought the first was WS and the second was Full Screen, or is one a different angle? I thought an angle movie was labeled as such. Any help as to detecting which is the WS or what the other one would be?

    Thanks

I find if there are two or sometimes more copies that 'look' the same, they are usually the same movie but with a slightly different start or an alternative ending

A good example is 'Supersize Me' which if I remember has at least 3 or maybe 4 different movies to choose from. All with slightly different beginnings

Another example is 'Alien vs Predator' this has 2 movies with slightly different lengths, again with slightly different beginnings

If you want both, you may be better off doing a complete DVD backup. I did this with 'Hide And Seek' as I wanted all the different endings, which DVD Shrink would otherwise list as different complete movies

If they are truly 4:3 and widescreen versions, then you can check by dragging one of them to the left side and then playing it in the preview window on the bottom left.

When I am faced with this problem, I usually try to track down the answer by doing one or more of the following...

-Check the box cover, and any inserts, to look for details listed there which might explain what these multiple titles are (sometimes you will see mention of "alternate ending" or "contains both theatrical version and director's cut" or "contains regular version and special trivia version with pop-up icons" or something similar.
-Check the DVD specs on-line. Usually Amazon has some very detailed descriptions of what extras and special features are on a disc.

    A typical example:

    DVD Features:
    Available Subtitles: Spanish, French
Available Audio Tracks: English, Spanish, French
    Disc One: Filmmakers' World
Widescreen presentation of film with introduction (1.78:1, includes French & Spanish subtitles)
Visual commentary with deleted scenes & recording sessions
    "Making Nemo" documentary
"The Art of Nemo" narrated by the artists
    Virtual aquariums
    ====

Okay, I notice in the above that it mentions a "visual commentary," and then I begin to suspect that this might be it. I check an on-line review, and it mentions this about that visual commentary:
"isn't merely a straight commentary, but is augmented with sketches for scenes that didn't make the final cut, brief interviews with other members of the Pixar team, footage of De Generes and others recording the voice tracks (look for Geoffrey Rush, as a pelican, squeezing his own tongue), and even Stanton pitching the story before production began to potential licensing partners."

Now, I know what the title is, and I can try to determine whether it is one, or two... one of them will use some form of branching to other stuff. The other will not.

  6. The 1st one is the main movie the 2nd could be a short version or something. Some may have an extra opening. If you play them maybe able to tell eg if it is a widescreen or normal. I suggest look at the size and choose the bigger one. if you don't see any difference they could double it to make dvd a DL. I've seen some they have things that's not even on the menu or played at all just a filler.

I just pick the first one listed as it's almost always the WS version, at least it has been in the last 200 videos I've seen.

  8. I suppose you could always simply throw it in your DVD player and see which title is listed on the player's display. I've seen identical movies on the same side, both WS, just that one of them had director's commentary instead of having only one title for main movie and the commentary as another audio option.

Open the IFO file(s) in IFOEdit and they should tell you the AR of each title (amongst other things).
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Thank you...
Place in computer or standalone and see whats in the menu options.
Or click both titles to the left pane and open each "full screen" to see if one is WS and the other FS...also right click on each and check the "audio" options.
The easy way is just play it and check out the movie options.
I have seen two titles (same length, same size) exactly the same, absolutely no difference. No idea as to why.

  11. Turned out that one was a different angle of the same movie. Suprising that they were exactly the same size.

Other times I've run both versions in the preview mode and they both look the same even when I know one is a full version. You would think one version would fill up the whole screen and the other would be more of a 16:9 look, but they both show as 16:9 look in the preview screen.

Thanks for all the help--will keep using the first selection and delete the second.
