  1. i have this mp3 of a cool song, but there's one curse word in it. i'm alright with it, but my mom is probably not.

how do i censor this word? i don't want to bleep it or cut it, i just want the voice of the guy to mute for .1 of a second to censor the curse. the music should still be playing though.

i tried cutting it, i cut it successfully, but it ruined the song cause it jumps.

Ways to fix this in order of quality:

    1. Re-hire the band to re-record the song. ReMix it yourself.
    2. Hope that there is a similar section(s) of the song (e.g. "last 2 beats of the chorus") that don't have the @#$%^& words. Then, using an audio editor, copy and paste. Make sure the timing/lengths of both the source and destination are the same or the tempo will be off/sound bad.
    3. Apply a series of filters & submixes that split out the frequencies into Lo/Mid/Hi channels, add a reverse function or polarity inversion or bleep or mute to the vocal (usually the Mid section), and then recombine the frequencies. This gets QUITE complicated.
    4. Apply a soundeffect/bleep/thump/tone of a length that coincided with the beats and was of a complementary volume, and fill over that section.
    5. Mute the section (in tempo).

or you could just live with it and justify it to your mother.

  3. Is there an edited version of the album available? Like the kind Walmart sells?

In just about any half decent audio editor you should be able to highlight just the word, and kill the volume for just the duration. If you don't want the gap (I still hear this done on commercial radio even today), try using AnalogX's vocalremover to create a stripped version of the song, and then intercut the stripped section for the rude bit.

Or stop using fake ID to buy CDs with warning labels.

analogX's vocal remover is a winamp plugin and i don't have winamp. i also don't want to install it. any other vocal remover that's free and works great?

  6. If the background music is looped or repeated then you can listen carefully for the musical phrase without vocals, then copy and paste that section over the phrase with the undesired vocal. Use your favorite audio editor. If done carefully it will blend unnoticeably.

Or, just listen with headphones so your mom doesn't hear it.
