    I attempted to author a DVD from some Xvid AVI's using Nero, but received an 'unable to insert' error. The files opened and played fine in MediaPlayer.

    When I dropped the files in GSpot, I noticed the right-hand panes were empty, and under 'container' it read "File Type: .MOV/.QT Mime Type: video/quicktime". When I ran the render test the file correctly showed as Xvid, and the second render test played the clip, but the right-hand panes in GSpot were still empty. Here's a screencap: http://www.streamload.com/jimnsb/GSpot_1.jpg

    Is there a way to change the 'container' info in the files, without re-encoding (its a whole season of a TV show...many files)? Or is there a way to have Nero recognize/open the files...possibly change a setting (i.e.: MimeType) in my system, or add a QT plug-in that I'm missing? Perhaps even an alternate burning program I could use?

    I've been researching this for a week and can't seem to find the answer.

    thanks

    Your best bet is to just re-encode the files...just do it manually instead of letting Nero do it.

    <groan!>

    Thanks.

    Are you sure there are no burning/authoring progs available for an Xvid file in a Quicktime container? Perhaps some QT (or Nero) plug-un/add-on/upgrade I could get?

    I'm not being argumentative; it just seems that the program that created these clips would naturally have a related (or target) authoring program to burn them onto DVDs, no?

    XviD in a .mov container? Seems unlikely. You don't by chance have the XviD decoder setup to handle the fourCC mp4v do you?

    I would have thought that Nero's own filters would handle it.

    There's one in my original post in this thread. (http://www.streamload.com/jimnsb/GSpot_1.jpg)

    My Xvid configuration screen shows no check in the mp4v box (and none in the DIVX or DX50 boxes either). I recently installed the K-Lite codec pack (which included MediaPlayerClassic), so is it possible that setting may be controlled/superceded by another codec?

    really appreciate the help

    Wanted to 'bump' this one time...then I'll file it in the 'unsolvable' folder.

    Could I simply change the mimetype setting in my system, perhaps even temporarily? If this sounds like something I should try, how would I accomplish/attempt this?

    thanks
