  1. Have a video in avi(xvid) format.. want to put subtittle in that.
I converted srt to SSA and then used virtual dub..
    And follow this method

Add button followed by the Load button. You now want find the subtitler.vdf file you downloaded before and finish the operation by pressing Open.

Go to the Video tab and select Full Processing Mode.

Now go to File and Open Video File... and use the browse function to select the .avi file you want the subtitles hardcoded to. Press Open when you find it.

Once the video has opened, go once again to the Video tab and select Filters again.

Press the Add button, and navigate down to the Subtitler option and press OK.

Select the .ssa you created earlier and press OK

    Selecting the Compression
The final step is selecting the compression for our .avi.

Navigate once again to the Video tab and this time press on Compression.

If your file is an XviD (most will be) then simply select XviD Mpeg-4 Codec from the list. Leave the default settings.

If your file is another type of compression select that from the list and leave the default settings.

Saving your file and finishing up
To finish up simply go to File and select Save As .avi or simply press F7 for convinience. Save it where you want and make sure the Save as type is set to audio-video interleave (avi).

Click Save and you are done. Sit back and wait for your .avi with hardcoded subtitles.
But the result was not ok.. i mean the clearity of the vid gone down
Is there any other method that i can put subtitle in the avi file without loosing its orginal clearity

Yes, you can mux the subtitle stream into the AVI as a softsub stream (if your player supports it, you can turn the subtitles on and off at will). Use VirtualDubMod, and add the SSA as a stream under Streams > Stream list. AVI-Mux GUI can also do it, I believe. (Of course, there are other ways to do it, but I normally just do it in VirtualDubMod.)

Your player does have to support the subtitles, though. If this is for a DivX/Xvid-capable DVD player, which supports SSA subtitles, you should be able to turn the subtitles on and off with the Subtitles button on the remote, just as you probably would if you'd included the SSA file alongside the video (movie.avi, movie.ssa).

If your player supports DivX Ultra, you can use AVIAddXSubs to mux SRT and SUB/IDX (Vobsubs) into the AVI, creating a new .divx file. But it doesn't really support SSA-format subs, so you wouldn't have all the additional formatting, etc.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

Hmm... well, it doesn't look like VDM will let me directly select an SSA for muxing into the Stream List, from the looks of the file-type dropdown. So, you may have to use AVI-Mux GUI, after all.

However, are you sure your TV supports SSA subtitles? If it does, you can probably also include them as an external file (give them the same name as the video you're trying to use them with - as I mentioned in my previous post, if you have a video named movie.avi, name the subtitle file movie.ssa. Save both to the USB drive, and see if the TV will load both (you may need to press the Subtitle button on the remote).)

If it does support MKV/MP4 videos, you may also be able to simply remux the video and audio streams from the AVI to an MKV or MP4, and add the subtitle stream there (there's more choices and ease, software-wise, for adding streams to MKV/MP4. ). But it's probably easier to try using the external subtitle file (movie.avi/movie.ssa) than resort to that.

Looks like your TV may not support SSA-format subtitles. If you have the instruction manual, does it mention what subtitle formats it does support, and whether or not it supports them separate from the video file?

You may end up needing to hardsub the video.

  12. yeah even i think it wont support SSA-format subtitles
mistake that i converted it too avi..now days there no use of these avi format..its old.. MKV rocks. i had all files in mkv format only with those simple .SRT notepad style subtitle....
Hardsub , yea i don it, for this avi video but the result was bad..i mean the quality of the vid was little lost
