  1. Hey everyone,

I'm posting this just because I haven't seen it posted yet with a real solution. I was searching to find the easiest way to convert my MCE recorded tv files to an Xvid file and couldn't find anything but DVRedit or DVR-ripper being mentioned, or other not-working or bloated solutions.

VideoReDo supports the dvr-ms format. It's not documented yet because it's still "beta" as the success ratio is not 90-100%, but it works like a charm for me. You need to select All Files when you go to Open a video. And VideoReDo, unlike TMPGEnc, does not reprocess the video so it doesn't take very long to save it. Use it to snip out commercials and whatnot, or just select the whole clip to get it saved as a MPG file.

After that... do what you want. Auto Gordian Knot seems to work great for me, but now that it's in a normal mpeg2 file, you should be able to use it anywhere.

I know it does, as I mentioned, but how long does it take to process a 1hr video? VideoReDo does it in about 5-10 minutes.

  4. Sorry, didn't see the part about xvid. TMPGEnc will convert it to a standard mpg file very quickly without encoding. Many people don't realize this.

  5. No problem and that's good to know. Actually, dvr-ms support is brand new for both programs, so it's good to mention that for people who don't know. VideoReDo is fantastic for editing commercials out and saving the mpeg2 without reprocessing the file. TMPGEnc is hands-down one of the best/most versatile video encoders around, and their DVD Author is very good for a basic easy-to-use authoring program. So they both have their place.
