  1. I am putting together some music videos, and well the resolution is 352 by 240.
Now I am choosing an xvcd and don't want to stretch the resoultion that much.

So is this "352/480" resolution conforming to xvcd standards.

thx, "everything i learned...i learned here."

  2. XVCD isn't standardized in any way, it is anything that uses MPEG1 outside of the VCD specifications.

352x480 is known as half-D1 (D2). You can certainly use it for XVCD, just make sure your DVD player will accept it.

If your source is only 352x240, there is nothing to gain by increasing the resolution, though.

    TyWelcome,

The 352 x 480 frame size is for capturing purposes only. This has to do with getting the most detail from your capture by capturing the most horizontal lines.

For example, if you capture your video at 352 x 480 uncompressed AVI, then encode that to compliant VCD specifications the resulting video will be good quality, however if you take that same uncompressed AVI file and encode a XVCD at a data rate of say 2300 kbps the end result will be an excellent quality XVCD that is very close in video quality to the original source.

In closing the answer to your question is "No" 352 x 480 frame size does not conform to xvcd standards. Standard VCD is 1123 kbps, anything above that is considered an XVCD, which may or may not play on some stand alone DVD players.

I hope this helps as I know this can be very frustrating.
