  1. Howdy, I have a couple of files ancoded with DivX 5 pro.
    I have tried to convert them to (insert any of uncompressed, divx, huffyuv, intel Indeo MS MPEG4) with virtualdub 1.4.8 but I was not able to get any video at all.
    I can play the files in MS Media Player but virtualdub seems to be unable to get any video at all.
    What kind of blunder am I up to today?

    Thanks in advance and best regards

    Well you might not have thought about it !!

    Try switching to video and audio streaming in Vdub, and save another copy, that can fix those type of error's.

  5. Hey, I did not really take offense, I was just joking as it sounded like "did you plugged it in?"
    Anyway, if the second suggestion was to try direct stream copy and generate a new divx5 AVI file I did it and it did not work.

    Any further suggestion?

    Thanks and regards

    Hi

    No, only kidding..

    You may be thinking that its a problem with Divx 5, but it might be the AVI that is corrupt. There are some strange errors lately and they all require a different way of doing things.

    Sometimes you need to run the frame scan for bad frames, sometimes you need to switch the video to streaming but have the audio on full processing. (lip sync if you don't)

    Sometimes the only cure is to save the AVI with a different codec, using full processing on video and audio.Usually saving the AVI out again with streaming cures any bad frames.

    Sometimes the keyframs have been left out, seams like there is a lot of jokers out there, they give you the AVI but don't want you to copy it, or convert it into anything else

    Make sure your using the latest copy of Vdub, 1.49 at the moment, as any changes will always be in the newer version. Have you tried it in TMPGEnc ?.

    I have seen a lot of movies act like you suggest, they are usually the new Mpeg 4.8, and saving with streaming usually cures the problem, but who knows what people are up to out there !!

    Ok, just done a test...

    Jeepers Creepers. AVI says "Nandub v1.0rc2"
    640 x 352, 24 Bits, 130477 Frames, 23.976 Frames/Sec, 131 KB/Sec, DIVXMPG4 V3

    If loaded into Vdub it says;
    VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values....

    At this moment, if you try to load the AVI into TMPGEnc and convert, it produces a mpeg with no audio.

    If you re-save the AVI you get this;
    640 x 352, 24 Bits, 130477 Frames, 23.976 Frames/Sec, 293 KB/Sec, DIVXMPG4 V3

    But now TMPGENce will encode the audio as well, However sometimes the audio is fine but there is a video problem, and the same method will cure this.
