Hey
I use to capture musicvideos with my computer. We have cable, so I don't get so good quality.
When I capture I use Virtual Dub and Windows 98 SE. There seems to be some driver issues in Windows XP since I don't get stereo.
Cpaturing goes great as long as I use 384x288. But I want to use higher resolution. I tried, but I could only go up to 400x300 without dropping frames.
Isnt my computer strong enough? It's a P4 2,4 Ghz with 1024 MB Ram and a 200 GB HD.
What resolution should I use, to get best quality?
I also wonder if I should turn on noise reduction in virtual dub when capturing or if it's better to use a filter when compressing the video?

You should be able to capture at 720x576 (assuming PAL, 720x480 if NTSC) on your computer with no problems.
VirtualDub is not a great video capture program. Try using whatever software came with your capture card. -
Well the WinTV version that I have installed in Win98 has not any capture functions. It can only take stillpictures.

Make sure your hard drive9s) are running in DMA mode.
Right click on My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers -> Primary IDE Channel -> Advanced Settings. You may have to check the Secondary IDE Channel too -- depending you how your computer is set up.
If your hard drive(s) are all running in DMA mode try killing all the little programs in the System Tray (by the clock). Most should give you an Exit or Close option when you right click on them. Antivirus software for example is notorious for interfering with realtime capture. -
Well I turned on DMA and closed all programs, leaving just systray and explorer open.
