I have a old computer that don't have any Firewire.
I was thinking about buy a PC-Card with Firewire but I wonder if anyone know how much
power do I use to capture a HDV from firewire??

It is just going to read the flow, nothing else

  2. Just capturing the data from the firewire port requires very little power. The data rate is only about 3.5 MB/s. Any current laptop can handle that, even most netbooks.

The problem is most capture programs will display the video as it's being captured. That requires a lot more power because the MPEG video has to be decompressed and displayed.
