  1. Does anyone have a good workflow for converting a PAL avi movie into a demuxed NTSC mpeg2 so I can burn it?

I've looked around and tried ffmpegx to no avail. Is it even possible?

  3. It doesn't look like it converts pal to ntsc, but it could be useful. I'll check it out, thanks.

with ffmpegx it is possible, but you are probably running into
needing to do invert mapping, as something may be problematic wih the .avi.

I've done one, and it does take a LOONG while,
but you can use ffmpegx to accomplish it.

  5. i dont think its an avi issue. How would I go about this in ffmpegx?

  6. -Drop avi on ffmpegx
-Select DVD mpeg2enc or DVD ffmpeg preset
    -Go to the video tab.
-Change the video size to 720x480, and change framerate to NTSC or NTSC film.

I've had more success doing these conversions using NTSC film with 3:2 pulldown than going directly to NTSC.

The only tricky consideration is figuring out the resizing, possible cropping and letterboxing. If your avi has no letterboxing then the automatic letterboxing of "decode with quicktime" will do the trick either with DVD ffmpeg or DVD mpeg2enc. If however there is some letterboxing present it's probably preferable to go the ffmpeg route and manually crop and/or letterbox your video in the filter tab. Note that if you add, for example, letterboxing of 60 both top and bottom then you have to set your video height to 480-60-60 so that the final total is 480.

    Good luck
