  1. Hi gang. Need help with what (in my mind) should be a simple task but how to do it escapes me.

    Here goes...
I have extracted 10 separate Chapters from a non-copyright protected commercial DVD using DVD2ONE X (Did not need to be ripped with MTR). Thanks to DTOX I have 10 separate VIDEO_TS folders (each containing one .VOB file ~500mb each).

Now, all I want to do is:
    1. Edit each one of the .VOB video clips to my liking (using DVDSP3 or iMovie or iDVD - you tell me).
    2. Burn all 10 (edited) video clips back to DVD (they don't all have to fit onto one DVD).
    3. If it is not too much trouble, I would ideally like to have a menu that appears when the finished DVD is inserted that shows a thumbnail for each of the 10 clips (but not if the process to accomplish this will mean sacrificing video quality)

***I really want to accomplish this as losslessly as possible (minimize re-encoding [best resolution & bitrate]). (USA - NTSC) OS 10.3.6

Also, I'm a newby in DVDSP3, iMovie HD, & iDVD 5 (though I'm a very quick learner and doing this "project" will greatly improve my skills).

I should note that I also have Toast, Sizzle, FinalCutExpress, VLC, ffmpegX, QTPro at my disposal.

I have searched and read many of the posts here (thanks to all, by the way), but my head is so cluttered with so much great advice that I find myself not knowing how to get started.

Finally, a lot is mentioned here about the audio part of the video clips. Kindly instruct me how best to preserve that (i.e. do I need to extract it first, at a certain sample rate, will I need to run A.Pack, etc - etc?)

Thanks so much to everyone who responds (I hope I can give back to this great forum in the future).

sorry I don't have time to give you a full answer, but this can get you started.

    >download and learn to use Mpeg Streamclip.
    >edit the vobs to your liking
    >demux to m2v and ac3 (or mp2 or .aif depending on the audio type in the vob)
    >import those m2vs and ac3s into DVDSP and build your dvd.
    >burn with toast.

No re-encoding will be done this process.

    hope this helps.

  3. Yeah same thing as above, the short is, once you do it a few times its fairly quick and painless

    1. Use YadeX where you can save your video as a vob (it mainly depends on how your DVD is that you are getting the files from), or you can use many other programs to get the vob onto the HD
    2. Open Streamclip and edit to your liking (its fairly straightforward but I can email you instructions I made) and then demux to m2v and ac3 or one of the other options of Demux
    3. Open Apple DVDSP3 and import the m2v and ac3 as asset, make your menu, etc and build
    4. Open Toast and burn the Video_TS
