I was told in another thread that concentric patterns on the bottom of your disk tells you that your drive is starting to "flake". What does this mean exactly??? I just got a Pioneer DVR-A09XL and when I burn at 8x it gives me those concentic patterns, yet when I burn at 4x it does not. How bad are these patterns in terms of playback, are they a indicator of a likely hood of more errors??? Since my drive is brand new and has the capabilities of burning at 16x should i not be getting these patterns when I burn at 8x with 8x media??? Is it just the brand of media i am using that is giving me these patterns and other brands that are more compatible with my burner would not??? I have been using 8x TDK-R. Thanks.

The patterns you see are due to the different speed zones. Dye burned at different speeds will show up as different colors. 4x burning is the same speed from start to finish so you don't see it there.
