A friend has returned from holiday with a dvd he bought of a day out they had quad biking. No matter what we tried to play it on, the picture was small and sited in the centre of the screen, with large black borders around it. Playing it through real alternative player shows it as being '720 x 576, 50Hz 4:3'. Is there some software i can put it through to increase the picture size. I realize as it gets bigger we are going to lose some quality.

You will have to crop the borders off, then resize it back to 720x576, then rencode and reauthor. After all this you may wish you had kept it as is, as the picture quality, although small, is better than it will be at the end of the process.
