    Hi there!

What File Type do you guys save to for Short Internet Videos?

I create lots of short vids (30 seconds to 15 minutes).
I have pretty good knowledge when it comes to downloading speed.

I used to save my files in .wmv format, for example, a three minute video would end up being: 10,922 KB.

I wanted to see what the guys in here do.

Do you guys suggest I save my files in to a certain format?
Are there better formats to save to if I want to re-edit in the future?

    Any help would be great!
    Thanks again.

  2. I find WMV @ 29.97fps/320x240/768kbps video/64kbps audio to be acceptable for downloading, the file size is ~1MB per minute.
Any highly compressed format is not good for re-editing,it's better to edit in MPEG-2 or DV.

    Hi!

Probably a silly question, but what is DV? How do you save a file to that type?

Thanks for the reply! I'm already using your MPEG 2 advice!

What encoding program are you using to get that small a file size with that large a video and audio bitrate?

What's usually quoted at other forums for 29.97fps/320x240 is 256/16 video/audio for around 2MBs a minute.

  5. @Jenny,
DV=Digital Video,an AVI codec that saves at ~13GB per hour.Used to transfer from camcorder to PC via firewire, you won't gain any video quality converting from MPEG-2 to DV.

    @trock,
I use Ulead VideoStudio but it doesn't matter what you use because the codec sets the rate:

Those bitrates would give about 6MB/min not 1MB/min

Unless that's the Max bitrate for vbr there's no way 705kbps + 64kbps will give you around 1 MB/Min

    705+64 = 769 Kilo bits /sec
    769/8 = 96.125 Kilo bytes /sec
    96.125 * 60 sec = 5767.5 KB/min
    5767.5 /1024 = 5.6 MB/min
