For the ones installing VD, VD-MPEG2 and VDMod, I'd like to know if there's a way to make all these applic. share the same plug-in folder (one folder for them all). I mean, I'm dowloading a plug-in pack and I think that wouldn't be a good idea to install all of them in their respective folders.
One more question: Baldrick in one of his guides says (and he's right) not to check Full Processing Mode as you convert MPEG2 to Xvid/Divx (check Fast recompress instead) due to the fact that VD would go YUV-RGB-YUV and hence there would be a loss of quality, blur, etc. .. (if I'm wrong someone corrects me please). I've also noticed that if you want to use VD's plug-ins you must choose Full Processing Mode, otherwise the plug-in screen will not be available. What can I do if I must "turn on" the plug-ins?
And finally the last question: If I have to use some of VD's plug-ins to an alredy encoded MPEG2, what can I do to go MPEG2 to MPEG2.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. I tried copying VirtualDub.exe from VirtualDubMPEG2 into VirtualDubMod's folder -- it appeared to work although I only ran a quick test. That would let them share the same plugins.

VirtualDUb's filters work in the RGB colorspace so to use them you must use full processing mode.

You can frame serve from VirtualDub(MPEG/Mod) to another program like TMPGEnc to go from MPEG to MPEG. YMPEG lets VirtualDub output MPEG1/2 directly. I've never used it so I can't tell you anything about it.

Thanks for taking time to respond. Is there any plug-in to frameserve with VD? Thanks in advance.

  4. VD has a built in frameserver, just need to install the handler that came bundled with it.
    Quality is my policy.

  5. Set everything up the way you want then File -> Start Frame Server.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I guess this way I could render the final result with Vegas' MainConcept Built-In MPEG encoder. By the way, I guess that'd be possible to frameserve from Vegas to VD too. Vegas has a third party plug-in called FrameServer (many thanks to Satish)... http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/
That's a good idea isn't it? Has anyone tried both ways?

Just copy the plug-ins from one plug-in folder to all the rest and every time you download a new filter, copy it to all the folders.

What are you going to do with all the files that have the same name? you can't stick them in the same folder. It's much easier just to to just copy the contents of the plugin folder. What do you do if you install more versions of VDub, keep putting them all in the same folder? How do you know which files to delete if you no longer want a certain version or if you have a buggy version that wants to mess up all the other versions?

I don't know what happened to my computer. I put all the files in the same folder and now I can't get it to do anything.

You should rename the folder "Files"...

If you want to have one Virtualdub folder, that is fine but you have to have a seperate folder for each version and each version has it's own plug ins folder.

Instuctions for loading filters from the Virtualdub site...VirtualDub filters can be loaded manually by clicking on the Load button that appears in the Add Filters dialog box.

They can also be automatically loaded at startup if you copy the .vdf file into a plugins subdirectory under the VirtualDub program directory.
