NEC 3520A BURNING freezing PROBLEM

On every burn I did on this NEC 3520A I get an instant that my playback freezes for a few moments. Under the same condition and software I get good burns from my external Sony 530a, I tested this on dvd+rw to rule out bad media. I use good media TDK Japan made or Maxell's. NEC gives me higher burn rate from 4X but under same 4x it gives me the freeze. My question is can this be remedied by firmware update WHICH ONE shall I use or shall I buy a new one? I can't trust to burn anything with it since I found out. My dvd player is Philips. Thanks
