  1. I have a HP Pavilion 510N and this morning it just started freezing at the HP Logo Screen you see when you first turn it on. I had been having problems buring dvds and the pc locked up so I shut it down with the power button. When I tried to turn it back on it would not get past the HP Logo screen that says "HP INVENT" ... this is the first thing you see when you boot the pc and it usually goes to the system password prompt after that. I've tried swapping out the memory and processor and that did not seem to work ... I guess I just have no idea what would be causing this. I can't even get into the bios ... When I hit F1 it displays the message "entering setup" as usual but it never goes any further.

  2. Did you try to do a install from your back up disks?

  3. An install of the OS? ... I can't very well do that when the pc does not even get to the point of looking for any drives to boot to. Anyway ... I unplugged the ide cable that my cd rom drive and dvdrw drive are both connected to and it boots just fine.

But now I have the problem of not having those drives connected.

You can try disconnecting the power and taking out the little battery on the motherboard. I'm guessing either something is wrong with your BIOS, maybe flashing the EEPROM would fix it, or there's something physically damaged on the motherboard.

  5. Well I came up with a temp solution. I just disconnected my primary dvdrom drive ... I have the dvdrw working but everytime I try and plug the dvdrom drive ... it sends me back to square one ... the initial freezing at the hp logo screen problem. I've tried switching ide interfaces on the board thinking maybe that was the problem but the hard drive works on both. I also tried switching cables with no luck ... as long as that primary dvdrom drive is plugged in it won't boot.
