  2. Nero is easy and usually works... Most "experts" at the forum grew to love Nero back in the days before VCDImager and when it was in the v5.0 incarnations.

I for one now detest Nero 5.5.

Nero is still good if you want to create a simple VCD or SVCD (i.e., one without menus). The menu support in Nero 5.5 is poor and a bit buggy.

IMHO, you should always create VCDs disc-at-once (DAO) whether you are using Nero, or WinOnCD or Easy CD Creator or VCDImager (but you would be burning DAO with CDR-Win anyway).

VCDImager is an excellent program to use if you are willing to use the command console and much more powerful than Nero. I created a demoVCD recently to show what VCDs and VCDImager can do in terms of authoring.

As for the "NO DISC" problem, this usually isn't an issue of which program you use at all, but rather a media problem. Many DVD players don't read CD-R or CD-RW well (they weren't designed to do this). If this is the case, then you will simply have to find another brand of CD-R that works for you. You will have to experiment. Often CD-RW works better.

The no FF or RW problem is a combination of issues -- ambiguity to the SVCD standards, differential adoption of the SVCD standard in different players, differential adoption of the SVCD standard in different authoring proggies, and ?how the mpeg was multiplexed (unsure of last point). There is a neat trick for fixing this problem with Nero and if you search for it in the forums, you will find it (it involves putting in a dummy scandata file).

If this issue happens with VCDImager, I believe there is a simple way around this too (involving putting in an extra option when building your disc -- the broken SVCD mode I think).

With VCDImager, you use it to create a CUE/BIN cd image on your HDD. You can then burn this image with CDRDAO (linux), CDR-Win (Win32) or Fireburner (Win32). You burn this disc image as DAO only.

    Regards.
