Capturing from VHS with VirtualDub, I see no switches to get around this and since it wasn't always this way, I should be able to cure it. Preview shows the movie correctly but opening the avi file by several viewers does not.![]()

You have a misconfigured codec/filter somewhere. Find what filters is responsible for rendering your AVI, go to its configuration settings, and uncheck/check the flip setting.
