  1. Ok so I have about 27 .avi TV ripped episodes. (each approx. 340-370mb each)

I want to put them on several DVD-R's.

How would I go about doing this?

  2. 1) Use an encoder to convert each file to mpg2 format.
    2) Use an authoring program to convert mpg2 files to dvd ready format
    3) Burn to disk
The number of files you can fit on a disk will depend on the bitrate and resolution of your mpg2 file.
For detailed help, check the tools and guide sections of this site. It'll take some work to figure this out, but we've all done it, there is no "best" way to do it, you have to make your own choices and compromises.

Have you looked in the Tools section under encoders. Each tool has a rating and often comments from members. Much quicker than waiting here for replies.

    Hello,

You need an authoring program like tmpgenc dvd author or ulead dvd movie factory. Some will accept avi direclty. Others will want you to convert the avi to mpg first and then author it.

You can use a video bitrate caclulator found in the tools section to determine how much you want to fit on the dvd. More video equals lower quality. Less video equal higher quality. It's up to you to determine how much time you want on the dvd. The more you squeeze on a disc the lower quality it will be.

However "upsizing" it will not benefit you. Making it a higher bitrate will not make it look better.

  7. Thanks.
I converted to mpeg2 and then authored using TMPGEnc DVD Author.

But I'm just wondering, I have 27 episodes. How many should I put on each disc? I was thinking 9 episodes on each disc [which would total to 3 discs], but would that make them bad quality?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Quality choices are in the eye of the beholder. There have been many arguments here about such things. What you need to do is do one or more tests by burning to a rewriteable dvd and playing it on your equipment. What is fine for you may be totally unacceptable for another.

  9. JARNUT,

I just went through this this weekend (just started working so don't take what I say as gosple). If yours are episodes that are taken from TV and are xvid what I did that was really simple was use dvdsanta (yeah I know its an all in one program and some do not linke it) it takes it directly from avi in xvid form to the final VOB's for burning.

What I noted is the following - I was able to do 8 episodes with it still being under 4.7 gb output. If you went with 9 I am sure you would start to lose just a littleof the quality.

Personally I know the quality of these xvids I have are a little lower than TV so I would not compress it any more but it is always an option.
