  1. I have been autoring DVDs from VHS sources for a little while and now I would like to author a DVD from a source I did not capture myself. I was wondering what are your reccomendations on converting an HD AVI to DVD.

My main question is that the original source is 624 x 352. Do I upsize it to 720x480, or go with a smaller resolution? I have a bunch of these files and I would like to fit as many as possible onto each disc.

What recommendations would you make for converting it to DVD to fit as much onto one disc as possible?

    Any help would be appreciated...

That is an odd raster size. What is the source?

    DVD players support 720x480, 704x480, 640x480, 352x480 among others.

  3. It was a D/L video from the internet. An HD capture.

I would like to keep the 16X9 Aspect ratio. would 352 x 480 work?

Well, 624x352 is not anywhere close to HD-- it's worse than your standard Hollywood DVD.

In order to maintain the 16x9 aspect ratio (i.e. in order for DVD players to recognize it is widescreen) I believe you have to encode at 720x480.

You could do this by either resizing the video file, or by padding it on all four sides with black bars.

  5. Alot of these tv shows that you can download say HD but are not HD quality, they are just in widescreen format. Just use 720 x 480, if you use Tmpgenc use the full screen keep aspect ratio and it will work great. I can fit about 4-5 hours on a dvd and still keep broadcast quality

  6. I figured the "HD" label on the filename wasn't right...something on the internet not true, how could that be??? I feel so cheap and used...

Nelson9937955: You can fit 4-5 hours of broadcast quality @ 720 x 480? That's the kind of juicy info I'm looking for...any tutorials or articles?
