  1. I just bought a Sharp Aquos 20" lcd tv and I wanted to know the best method to keep it clean. I had heard that using any cleaner on it will mess up the screen. But how do you get the occasional fingerprint off of it? Of course, the manual doesn't even mention cleaning.
    Anyone know what is best?

I have a piece of fine suede that came with my family's ibook. It works very well on all electronics that I've cleaned.

I recommend a clean damp soft cloth with water, just a little of water only.

After this get another cloth as dry to wipe the water gently on the screen.

The LCD of my Notebook is like that and I use water only to clean.

Don't use anything else as it would damage the LCD screen.

Check out here on how to clean your LCD screen

I use a micro-fibre car polishing cloth, very lightly damped.

  5. thanks fellas. I knew there was an issue with cleaning but I am still quite surprised that the manual doesn't have any hints or guidelines about cleaning.

I usually just blast the dust off with one of those compressed cans of air you clean the rest of the PC with.

My LCD TV came with a special fine cloth to clean the screen although I have heard the Monster Screen Clean kit works well and is safe for flat screens. Hope that helps.

Thats a good thing and I should use that. The only problem is, I have a 2 year old boy. Until I get the tv hung on the wall out of his reach, I get the occasional print from him. It's not like he's constantly touching it, but the 2 or 3 times he did touch it have built up. (not all that bad mind you, but I'm thinking of the future).

I'll just use a soft cloth slightly dampened, like suggested earlier, I think. Haven't done it yet, but will when it just looks bad enough!

Figure the kids are going to mar, disfigure and destroy whatever they can get their little hands on, so an LCD screen in a house where a 2 year old can paw at it is just going to be a casualty sooner or later.

Seriously though, I got a friend that stuck a clear sheet of plastic over his LCD (computer monitor) using strips of velco because his kids were always touching it. I don't know if they have them ready made for LCD TV sets like they used to sell for the old projection bigscreen TV sets, but it may be worth checking into.

I have these iclean things designed for apple notebooks. I use them to clean laptops I work on and my moms LCD monitor. Its like a 3 step process. Wet cloth, dry cloth, buff cloth. works great.
