  1. I am trying to convert an avi file to mpg so that I can burn it on a cd. I am using TMPGenc to convert and using Nero to burn onto the cd. The problem I am having is that the picture does not come out clear. The source file I am using is 352x288 and bitrate is 2000. Can any one help me choose settings so that the picture comes out reasonable.

    Thanx

The picture is not clear just due to the resolution. Try 352x576 or 480x576 instead. Depending on the source the bitrate you may increase the bitrate as well. But if you have a clear, low compressed source 352x576 @ 2000 should be OK. If you have a noisy source, you should use a denoise filter of course. Since a higher resolution leads to a sharper, more detailed picture, you will see every detail and distortions better. The MPEG encoder recognize noise as a detail and try to encode it as good as possible.
