very quick mencoder 2-pass question...

is it normal for my second pass to be slower than the first? my first pass goes at about 18 fps, and then the second pass is around 5-6 fps. pass 2 seems to stutter as well... it'll encode 2 frames very quickly, then the third frame will take about as long as the first 2, and this repeats for the entire file. this is with any codec i've tried using mencoder.

i've only noticed this recently, and for all i know it's always been happening, i was just curious if this is normal behavior or if there's something i can do to speed it up.

Yes, it is normal the first pass being faster than the second pass.
