  1. I have some MPEG-2 video that I have captured, and am trying to convert for playing on my DVD player, which I thought was a simple process.

The MPEG-2 is 640x480, NTSC, 4:3, 2.5 mbps. It plays fine using Windows Media Player, but the bitrate is apparently too high for my DVD player.

I've tried using TMPGEnc to convert this into standard VCD or SVCD, which I know works when I use it to convert DV footage from my camcorder. The problem is that the resulting MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file does not play properly, with stuttering audio and something like static pops. The video seems to play OK, but the audio is terrible! This is true if I play it in WMP, or in my DVD player.

Anyone have an idea about this? I've not tried anything involving splitting the audio/video, as I'm still a novice... Would this be a problem?

    Thanks!

  2. Well, I've gotten no responses.... Did I not make the issue clear?

I use TMPGEnc to convert a file from MPEG-2 to VCD NTSC MPEG-1, using the standard TMPGEnc template.

When complete, the resulting file has good video quality, but terrible audio quality, full of stutters, clicks, and pops.

I've now tried de-multiplexing the audio, converting the file to MPEG-1, then multiplexing the video from the converted file with the audio stripped from the pre-converted file. This seems to work fine about 2/3 of the time, with minimal loss of sync, but the remaining 1/3 of my 12 conversions are completely out of sync. I also get warning messages about possible error or buffer underflow on playback, but some files with this error message seem to work fine.

Come on, gurus!! Any ideas here?
