For those situations where you have movies that are 1.5-2 hours is it better to "guess" at the VBR and see how it comes out or to encode at a high VBR or CBR and then DVDShrink to fit on a DVD ?
The original source is an AVI from my video editor.

Hello,
Use a bitrate calculator to determine the proper bitrate. Look in the tools section on the left of the screen under LISTS <-------
Anytime you process video you lose some quality so it's better to encode it to fit the disc the FIRST time then to process it more than once

That would be the best solution for CBR but I was wondering about VBR.

2-pass VBR. Calculate the average using the calculator. Set the min and max at the far ends of the DVD range... 500 and 8,000. The file size will will be very close to the calculated size.Originally Posted by MrSpeed"Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa
