  1. I followed the instructions on this side for capturing video/audio using virtualdub and the huffyYUV codec.
During the capture the video and audio stream are both reported as growing and i hear audio through the computer's speakers.
However when i playback the captured avi there is only video and no
    audio :( (nothing muted)
    help? :)

Hm.. I'm not sure what TV Tuner Card you have but... a while back when I was still using my ATI TV Wonder, I had the same issue as yours. What I did to capture video AND sound was I loaded the ATI TV program and while ATI TV was *still on* I went to VirtualDub and captured as usual. Thus, the result was a captured AVI file with video AND sound. =]

Give it shot, even if you don't have a ATI TV Wonder.

  3. Hm I have to launch the TV app to hear sound in the first place.
(launch tv, close tv, launch vdub, capture)
I launched Vdub first once and it wouldn't let me launch TV cause another application (vdub) was already using the connection.
Gonna try launching it the other way around though (BTW I got the ATI AIW 128 Pro)

  4. Run windows volume control panel. Change to recording, make sure that linein (or whatevery your source is coming from is selected). There's different settings for playing (line in selected so can hear) and recording (line in not selected so can't record).

  5. YOU DID NOT READ THE GUIDE!

otherwise you would've have noticed the troubleshooting section of the guide at the bottom of the page labled

"No audio in Virtualdub capture mode:......."

"I read the guides *wink* but I just need help on this one thing, how do you do this one thing?"

make sure line in is selected in recording properties, on my card this works for tv captues but if I want sound when capturing from a source I need to plug my audio directly into the line 1 or 2 on my sound card and not go through the video card.

also, check the levels on your vu meters in vdub before doing any capture, if it's not there you are wasting your time...lol
