I have read various posts in this and other forums with info about firmware hacks for the LiteOn 5005 Recorder. Among other hacks are ways to change the region code to region free. I have also read about a hidden menu in the 5005 that allows the region code to be changed. I tried it on my 5005 and it works great. All you need to do is to select the setup menu and move the cursor to the Exit icon. Do not select exit, but instead press 2960 0n the remote. Upon doing this a menu pops up that allows the region code to be changed. Seems less risky than installing a version of firmware from potentially questionable sources.

I wonder and strongly suspect that if there is one hidden menu, there are very likely others as well. Does anyone know if this is the case? I am specifically wondering about the 3-hour change as well as the Macrovison elimination function. Other hidden menu functions might be interesting as well.

    NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

That doesn't work. That's just for region free.
There are no more hidden menus.

The 5001 had a trick for MV off, but that was for early firmware only.

  3. Ok
i have just come back from argos with what i thought was a liteon 5005
but on close inspection it say LVW 5004

The good news is that i have tried copying a number of MV tapes
(Star wars Trilogoy and TITANIC) and all have copied great without
    any MV interference

has anyone else got one of these machinces?????
