  1. I want to capture some TV Shows for archivial purposes. These collected files will not be viewed anywhere put on a computer.

Would the ATI-TV Wonder be good for doing this? Mainly, I want a really good capture with as little frame loss as possible, in a format that will allow for the commercials to be edited out later.

I have $200.00 to spend, so any alternatives to the ATI card would be welcome. I am running:

    1.5Ghz P4
    512MB RDRAM
    ATI Radeon DDR 32MB
    100GB HDD
    Windows 2000 Pro/BeOS 5 Pro

    Thanks,

you can also get Mpeg2VCR to edit out commercail and Unlead DVD to burn or Nero. I would capture to SVCD burn the Cd's they will play on your PC but if you want them to watch on TV get a Apex DVD player model AD-1500 or AD-5131 you can see more of they DVD plays here

  3. Thanks for the reply, I will check out the Dazzle.

I have no intention of watching the capture anywhere but my computer, so DVD/VCD is not an issue for me, although I will use a CDR for backup purposes. I just want a crisp, good capture with no dropped frames and good quality.

    Thanks again.

  4. Since VCD/SVCD isn't an issue, the only issues remaining are image quality and file size. AVI format is out since you have a 700MB limit (which isn't much time in AVI format). IMO you need to use either MPEG-1, -2, or -4, or perhaps Huffy or something similar.

I use an ATI AIW 128 Pro w/32MB. I guess your Radeon doesn't capture, eh? I'm not sure what the prices are on the AIW Radeon, and I have no familiarity with the TV-Wonder. The Wonder cards are quite good, tho.
