Hello all;
I am having a delima. The other day I got a copy of a DVD (I did not make the copy, someone else did) and as usuall I used Nero Express to make/burn the DVD-Video.
When I try to play the DVD in my DVD Players, my Sony unit says "Cannot Play" and my Panasonic unit says "No Play" and nothing happens. BUT when I put it in my PC I infact can play it with DVD X Player (I havn't tried any other software!). Could anyone help me figure this out.![]()
Thanks
P.S. I have done this many times, but I had always made my own backup sets from the original DVD and it has worked fine. I can play it on either of my DVD Players and PC player!

Hello,
Possibly it wasn't finalized????
If you can play it try copying to the pc (backups won't need rippers, just copy it to a folder).
Then try to burn a new disc from the video_ts folder and it should do fine.
I've had this same problem where a backup won't work on one player but will on the pc. I just did a disc copy and it worked just fine
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Also there are a few DVD players that don't play recorded DVD's so try your friends DVD player and if it works, buy a different DVD player.
PEACE OUT TO ALL MY HOMIES -
Did I hear you correctly? A Backup of a DVD doesn't need to be ripped? Thats great if its true. So you can just open up Windows Explorer and drag & drop to your hard drive?Originally Posted by yoda313

Hello,
Yep. It's been decss'd already. Just use normal disc copy procedures.Originally Posted by iamnotapirate
Or you can use a ripper if you feel more comfortable with it but it will just be copying the files, not decoding since there's nothing to decode.

I have done quite a few other ones and my DVD Player works fine. So i am not sure if the DVD Player is the problem!Originally Posted by subzerosuperman

First, thanks for your reply. But I think I need a little more help!Originally Posted by yoda313
Ok...Let me make sure I understand. I am a little confused since I thought when you use Nero Express to make the DVD it will finalize the disk for you.
I got these files not as a burned DVD. So I used Nero Express to burn the DVD by placing the various file in the video_ts folder (what i have always been doing with other ripped DVDs). Once the process is finished and I place the DVD inside my PC DVD drive (I don't just play the files from my harddrive!), it plays fine but when I put it inside my DVD Player, it does not play.
If I understand you right, you want me to take the DVDR that i have made and copy the content to a folder and then copy it back on to another DVDR as data and it will work fine?

Sometimes if your burn software failed to close disc, this disc could not be read by any players except the PC which you used to burn the disc. In this case, you'd better copy the content on your disc to your hard disk, then burn again.
And under high speed some burners or discs may be unstable. In this case you'd better use a low speed to burn disc.
If the quality of your discs are not very good may still cause such issue. You can try other brand of discs to see if they can work.
Stand alone DVD players support various media types such as: DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD-RW,CD-R,CD-RW;
Check your user manual or contact your manufacturer to find out what media types your player supports.
This link may also contain information about your DVD player:https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.
And your software may have compatibility issue with your player. In this case, you'd better contact with the manufacturer of your software to see if it can support your player.
By the way, what kind of disc you use? Normally the compatility of DVD-R disc is better than DVD+R. You may try this disc. -
Well, I have tried burning it three times already from the files i have on the hard drive and all the same result. But i never tried copying the content from the burnt disk back to the had drive and burning it again!!! I gues I will give that a shot!Originally Posted by jusanhu
Well I am doing what I have always been doing, using the same speed, etc. I use 2.5x but now I try 2x. But this was never an issue in the past.Originally Posted by jusanhu
These are the discs I have always been using the past and it was never a problem so that can't be it.Originally Posted by jusanhu
This can't be it either since, once again, I have done these before and no problem!Originally Posted by jusanhu
I use DVD-RW and they have always woked just fine so I am not quite sure if it is the answer but I have some DVD-R and I will give it a shot too!Originally Posted by jusanhu
Thanks and i will keep you posted. -
Try this proceedure.Originally Posted by esabet
Open up Nero. Click on Recode. Select Copy Main Movie only. Select Import DVD. Select the video_ts folder from you hard drive. After that is imported make sure you have "fit to target" checked and that "dvd-5(4.7 gb)" is selected. Then click on "Next." Make sure you "destination" is you dvd burner. Select your burn speed and how many copies you want and select "Burn." This proceedure should work for you. I believe your problem is that you are burning a data dvd, which doesn't work on a lot of stand-alone dvd players. You need to burn a video dvd. -
I will be trying it today and i will post the results. Just one question, in the first step did you say "Recode" or you mean "Record"?Originally Posted by mrswla

Yes. Use Recode. When you double click on the nero icon, it will bring up the main menu. On the left there are all the apps that are included with nero. Select Nero Recode. Then it brings up Nero Recode 2's main menu. Select "Recode Main Movie to DVD", then follow the steps in my previous post. Hope this helps. Do let me know if this works.

I don't seem to be able to locate Nero Recode in my menu but meanwhile I thought about something that i should have tried long time ago. Up to now I was only looking at the DVD Player LCD where it would say "Cannot Play". This time I thought maybe I should look at the TV screen for more info. What it says on screen is "Playback prohibited by area limitations.". Does this have anything to do with reigon? Is it possible to remove/change the region?Originally Posted by mrswla

I removed the region and still the same, is it possible that it is PAL and not NTSC? How can I check to see what format it is in?Originally Posted by esabet

If DVD-RW works but DVD-R can't, you'd better update the firmware of your burner.

That is not the issue! The problem is the same, regardless!Originally Posted by jusanhu

Hello again dear friends!!!
First of all it depends how and what software he used to make the dvd.
I noticed with older versions of dvd shrink (not the latest the older ones) when you made the full disk method and you was trying to playback on a stand alone dvd player it used to load with a black screen or to say no disk or something similar. When you was pressing the playback button it was playing normal.
One of my friends he gave me several movies that he authored with dvdshrink older version and some dvds they had this problem.
The only reason it was this.I gave him the latest dvdshrink version and all his dvd's working perfect with no issues.
Everything is related to what software you use and the media that you use!!!
