Too many bugs with TMPGenc 2.5, make it useless...

Well, here is a list of bugs with tmpgenc 2.5

- On Athlon xp+ prosseccors, you need to enable all the time the SSE
- CQ_VBR is not working! It is always set to default (max 3000, min 0, 50%).
- No preset templates work with anything except CBR and 2PASS VBR
- The Gop Stracture tricks do no effect with 2.5.
- The "animation" Gop preset sucks....
- Batch Encode Buggy, crash many times with no reason
- The encoding time, seems to be slower than before, when you use filters, like de-interlace.
- Many mpeg-2 produced by 2.50, can't be played by media windows player...
- You must set "soften block noise" at least to 65 % (!) for have a good effect to macroblocks. Use to be good with 35% on earlier versions.

The only good stuff from the new version are:
- On 2 Pass VBR the quality is way better! Less blocks, smaller files.
- Without the use of filters, the program is faster about 5% than before
- Mpeg tools works much better now.
- Join and Cut on Mpeg Tools, shows the true frame when you mark to cut (at last!).

Conclusion:
Use tmpgenc 2.5 only for your DVD or DVB/s/c/t rips and only with 2 Pass VBR.
For anything else, is useless

SatStorm, you're 100% right!

I just tried a clip with TMPEG 1.2 beta and indeed the quality is by far better than 2.5 ( at least on standard VCD ) with optimized GOP's.
The only problem is that 1.2 is much slower. But I'll go for quality over the time issue.

I had been fooling aroung with 2.5 and trying to figure out why I couldn't get better quality.

Maybe TMPEG is gearing towards a full commercial product, and the internal MPEG-1 routines are, on purpose, being de-optimized
