Hey guys.
I have been gone for many many months and havn't posted here in a while.
When I was here back in those days, everyone was using DVDShrink and it was the best thing known to man.
I just want to know if anything has changed since I was gone.
Is DVDShrink still the best?
Is there any new software I should know about?
How is DVD Decrypter doing these days?
Update me my friends, update me. I have fallen way behind.![]()

Not much has changed. DVDShrink seems to lead in popularity. DVDDecrypter is also very popular

Hello,
Of course dvd decrypter is only for ripping if you just have a single layer dvd burner. You still need a transcoder to get it to fit
Yes I think dvdshrink is quite excellent.

DVD9: DVD Shrink, I use it when needed. Deep Analysis, and you're set. Or DVD2ONE is good, use it for movies, when needed.
DVD5: Decrypter read ISO, write ISO. EasyWant my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Yeah, particularly the latest version.
An alternative is DVDRebuilder, with which you re-encode, rather than transcode. But you need Cinema Craft Encoder, payware. (I'm still using v. 0.52, perhaps it can use other encoders now too?) You can also use the freeware encoder QUEnc, but the quality doesn't justify the extra time needed.
JMHO

With the proliferation of DL media, a number of people do not have reason to use DVDShrink any more, as it's as simple as a DVD5 now - DVDDecrypter ISO Read/ISO Write. For those resisting the change to DL media (be it for waiting for - media, waiting for the prices to become reasonable, etc etc etc), DVDShrink is still well and truly up there, if not still king IMO. It must be said that the creator of DVDShrink now works for Nero and is developing Nero Recode, so you'll probably find some similarities there.Originally Posted by mobIf in doubt, Google it.

If it has been awhile since you used Shrink, it has gotten better with version 3.2.

I have 3.1.2
It works fine. Quality fine. No visual artifacting of any kind. Always deep analysis, use it to burn too. Ripped in Decrypter.
What benefits does 3.2 give?Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Better quality. I used to always use IC8 until dlooping proved me wrong and now I use shink in most cases. I also just recently compared shrink to rebuilder and was really surprise that I couldn't tell the difference ( 27" TV with the DVD player set at 4X zoom)Originally Posted by lordsmurf

So is that it? Most people complain about IPB degeneration, so I've always used DVD2ONE for my movies anyhow. I only use SHRINK for episode discs, and the compression is such that it touches all of the GOP. Therefore, no dancing pixels.
Thanks. I'll stick to what I have for now, it looks fine.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

My solution is CloneDVD2 to eleiminate menus and extra and cut out last chapter if it's just credits rip as though it's DL so the transcoder isn't engaged and then use Rebuilder with CC .67.

If I remember correctly, how do you know what audio stream you need to keep. AC3 5.1 or DTS 5.1 if the disc has both? I usualy just keep the DTS, and shrink shows which is which. Does DVD2one show which is which or do you just keep all the streams?Originally Posted by lordsmurf
