  5. I also had a problem with Ritek G05 DVD-R. For me, I had to slow down the burn to 4x to prevent skipping/freezing on my Nec-3500. Now that TY discs have fallen below $30 for 50 at Rima and meritline, I'll stick with those.

I love the G05 with my Pioneer 108. They burn great, and good playback.

Sometimes It's not a matter of dye but of the brand that manufacture the disks.
With Ridata RitekG05 I had no problems at 4x (LG writers cannot write them at 8x). Some friends of mine had problems with ANV RitekG05 burning with Pioneer 107.
With Ridata Ritekg04 I had no coasters but Pi values were always higher than 200.

  8. Just one question from budz. Does your 107D burn G05 media at 8x speed? Do you know if the official firmware supports this media at 8x? Thanks in advance.

Same problem here, deejay, on a NEC 2500. I tried different firmwares, different burn speeds, cussed my drive, etc. Then, I bought a coupla spindles of the Made In Japan Maxell's that were on sale at Office Depot this weekend and I've burned 10 in a row at top speed with no problems. I'm blaming the G05's. I'm sticking with MXL and TY.

  11. Count me in on the problems with the G05 media. My LG doesn't like them, even at 4x speed. My NEC 1300 doesn't care for them either. I bought these at Newegg (they were offered as 4x and they shipped these to me). The G04 (which I thought I had ordered) never gave me a problem. I emailed Ritek and told them about how they skip and freeze on all my players, and they sent me an email with a link to getting an RMA. They are going back since they are no use to me.
