  2. Just do a "disc-to-disc" copy using the DVD burning software that came w/ your drive. If your friend fit the data onto a DVD-R, then it will fit onto another DVD-R w/out the need for shrinking the size.

Am I missing the point of your question?

EDIT: By the way, since it's a disc to disc copy, it's all digital, no loss of quality -- you know, the whole point behind the DMCA, macrovision, Jon the DeCSS master, and all that?

  3. Why are you using dvd shrink? Just use DVD Decryptor to make an image of the DVD. THen use nero or anotehr burning program to burn it to a DVD. No need to use Shrink.

  4. He doesn't even NEED DVD Decryptor if his buddy has already got it onto a DVD-R, unless it's somehow copy-protected...

Am I missing something here? I copy DVD-R to DVD-R with absolutely no problem using RecordNow, which came w/ my Sony 500UL drive...

    Yeah,
Barring any added hidden CGMS crap that the authoring software might put on, it shouldn't have ANY copy protection and so would be a straight Disc-to-Disc copy that EVERY disc burning app should be able to handle, incl. Nero, ECDC, etc.

Lots of times at work, I take video and record it into our Pioneer PVR-9000 as straight transfer. Do it a couple of times-diff shows, make menu text and finalize.
Then I take this and make a Disc Image w/ Nero and then burn 5, 10, 20, 50 copies. Easy as pie. And pretty fast, too.

  8. Most burning programs will have it...

BUT -- I did realize my one mistake: I have this unfortunate habit of thinking that everybody has exactlly the same setup as me! I use an external DVD burner, which means I have two DVD drives, so I can do disc to disc.

If you only had one DVD drive (the burner), then you would either have to save the files/folders to your harddrive first, or create an image to burn onto the blank DVD-R.

I'll try to keep my blinders off from now on!
