I ripped a DVD like I have several times in the past
    following Sefy's instructions...using SmartRipper,
DVD2AVI, and TMPGEnc. All goes well in this
particular case, but when I try to open the
.d2v file in TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc gives me a message
(after along delay), that it can't open the file.
I can open it manually with a text editor, and it
    looks fine.

Other times I have done this it worked fine.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  2. Have you read the VERY first page in my guide ? before even going into Smart Ripper ? i've mentioned that after you get all your required program, unzip them all into the SAME folder, and ONLY then TMPGEnc will accept D2V files, basicly I didn't want to take any risks by telling which programs, so I said all those you use, get the TMPGEnc and the VFAPI and DVD2AVI and unzip all three of them into the SAME location, run the VFAPI batch install program, and i'm quite sure you will be able to open D2V files in TMPGEnc.

  3. i had a similar problem before, and i read somewhere that you can try lowering the priority setting for VFAPI in TMPGenc. i lowered it down (by right clicking) two notches, and it worked!

    hope that helps.

    Cheers~

Thanks for the replies. Sefy, I tried the suggestion at the bottom of your guide for problems
opening d2v file, and it didn't work. I found a suggestion on the TMPGEnc support board
to try setting DVD2AVI to forced film, and that took care of the problem.

I would like to note that I have not had a problem opening d2v files prior to this movie.

Don't know if changing the priority would have helped or not, but I'll keep that in mind if I have the problem in the future.

Also Sefy, thanks for your great guide!

  5. msfox: just copy the DVD2AVI.vfp file from the DVD2AVI folder to the TMPGEnc folder to solve this problem.

msfox, did you copy the .vob files to a different directory?
Let's say, I rip the vobs to d:\movie\. Then I create a dvd2avi project file, that I can feed into TMPG.
If I move the vobs to d:\movie\movie\, TMPG can not open the files anymore, because in the dvd2avi project file is written, that the vobs are located in d:\movie\.
Just a guess, hope it helps.

  7. msfox, i'm glad to hear you managed to fix the problem! I've added your suggestion to the guide, and i'll try to get the guide posted as soon as possible, i've just now completed the Menu and Chapters using Nero and Chapters using TSCV, and i'll also add Menu creation using TSCV soon, the latest Beta 9 has been released and it now includes CDRDao built-in support so it will be easier to burn discs, especialy those who are bigger then 80min.
