  1. Hi,

Everytime I convert my DV AVI files (captured via firewire) to MPGE2, I keep getting horizontal lines on the output. No matter what settings I use (only really tried VBR, CBR, and high bit rates), nothing seems to make any difference.

I've tried standalone CCE v2.67 and vegas video's built in MPEG2 encoder but I still get this horizontal line distortion.

It's hard to explain exactly what this distortion looks like but to help visualise this - imagine you pause a frame, the if you look closely, it appears as if very alternate line is offset to the right by a few millimetres.

    something like this.

    __________***************(line 1)
    *___________************(line 2)
    __________***************(line 3)
    *___________************(line 4)

    and so on.
I'm not sure if this help or hinders.

Also, is there a blow by blow tutorial that shows the optimum settings to get PAL DV to the best quality MPEG2 possible using CCE ?

  3. This has been answered time and time again. Change the field order. For a DV source, it should be bottom field first.

  4. I did change the field order and had the exact same issue. I found out the problem was the DCT filter I was using in AviSynth. I removed that, and like magic the lines were gone.
