I have finally got it down to the 2 cards above as to which one to use based on my budget for capturing analog sources. Can anyone tell me from personal experience how their capturing went with either card with analog sources like 8mm and vhs?
I would appreciate any feedback on this.

If you are looking for realtime mpeg capture the AIW will do a nice job
(as nice as realtime encoding in the hobbyist pricerange can do) I own 2 older AIWs and a Avermedia Stereo TV card(and some others) By using the btwincap drivers with the avermedia and capturing to huffyuv you will get the best quality analog capture in the pricerange. The AtoD circuits of the BT8X8 are quite good and huffyuv is mathematically lossless. I believe the current drivers of the AIWs will support capturing to huffyuv but you may not be able to use MMC to do so. With the BT8X8 card you separate the display card from the capture card and have a group of open source developers continuing to polish the drivers for the capture card. With the AIW you are tied to ATI for drivers.
Once you have the capture you can convert to Mpeg 1, 2 or 4 in any method you choose.
