  1. I'm using DVD Maestro to author a self-promoting DVD. I want it to have 16:9 menus, so I prepare the background and overlays at 1024x576 and resize to 720x576. I then import the assets in Maestro and define the menu to be 16:9. I then compile the project to hard-disk and use Power DVD to see what's the result.
Everything works fine, except all menus are displayed full-screen, as if they were 4:3. This of course means they're distorted and I have yet to find out what I'm doing wrong. I repeat that I specifically define 16:9 to the menu options in DVD Maestro, also Power DVD is set to maintain aspect ratio and displays commercial DVD widescreen menus correctly.
    Thanks for any help.

  2. two things:
first, make sure you have each specific menu defined as 16x9, not just the properties of the project. When you create a new menu, the option is in the first tab (along with which button state to show, etc.; I don't remember the name of the tab as I'm not at that comp right now). If you have a 4x3 TV your 16x9 menus can either be Pan&Scan menus or Letterboxed. This option is in the project properties (I personally like Pan & Scan).

  3. Aanbalagan, thanks for your reply but as I said, I have double checked that each and every one of the menus is defined as 16:9 at the properties tab of the menu, where you define button navigation etc. I can't seem to find any other settings for this option, and Pan&Scan or Letterbox doesn't seem to have any difference.
As I'm previewing on the PC I don't know how menus will behave on a widescreen TV, but I expected 16:9 menus to be correctly displayed on the PC nonetheless, since commercial DVDs do so. Also the anamorphic "movie" that follows the menus, is correctly displayed in the right aspect ratio, so the overall aspect ratio properties are OK.

  5. Bumping this for the last time, just in case anyone has missed it....

I only have to add to the above, that "wide" motion menus (or still pictures encoded to video and imported as m2v) seem to be able to be displayed correctly as 16:9 on a 4:3 screen, but static ones don't for the life of me...

  6. Problem solved!

Apparently it seems that Maestro 2.9 build 2912 has a bug, which affects static widescreen menus, flagging them as 4:3.
After "upgrading to version 2.9 build 2915a the problem disappeared and 16:9 menus are now displayed in all their widescreen glory!
