grrrrrrr, why don't this program support AC3 sound??? why? why? why?

It's by my knowledge the only dvd authoring program that can import video_ts.ifo and/or .vob files.... the others only support selfmade/encoded material (m2v, mpg, mpeg). I was searching for his very simple use for creating a very simple menu to select the present titles on the disk.

and transcoding to normal .WAV or .MP3 (with loss on sound quality) doesn't work either.... my output sound plays WAY to fast. I'm using Besweet with the GUI.

    I just hate this!

I'm using DVD MovieFactory 2 to import Ifo/Vob's and muxed mpg's containing AC3, without touching them. It warns me about non support of AC3, but just click OK and it authors just fine. You won't hear the audio in the preview window though, but it does work. I think the giveaway to the fact that it does actually work, is that the File Properties will actually report the specs of the audio. Maybe it's meant to look like it doesn't support AC3 for licensing reasons. But it works for me!

A point to note is that when you import a vob, DMF2 will place a muxed AC3 mpg in the files caching folder, usually in C:\My Documents\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\2.0\capture, which I've found very handy for later use.

I love this proggy, it's far more useful to me than DVDWorkShop (apart from menu flexibility) and cost a hell of a lot less.

I also find the burning engine very good and always use that end of the program to burn my Title Folders, whatever I've created them in (DVD2one e.g.).

If you really want to be AUDIO sure, use DVD Archetect from Sonic Foundry.

It is a better DVD setup software(lets you use your own backgrounds and stuff) and it actually RE-ENCODES if you want !!! Example, you can specify different audio streams AC3, 5.1 surround and it will reorganize, resize, etc....

Check it out..But PRICEY. I have it with my Vegas Video 4.0

    submat,

cool, you are right. He does recognize the ac3 stream and it will play in the final stream. I would have sworn that I already tried this one but maybe I did something wrong somewhere! %-)

I will try it now with the real deal... Blade II movie and some 4 extra titles... I'm anxious to the results!

thanks for the motivation, I nearly gave up hope and delete this great proggie from my hdd!

    another problem:

Moviefactory's working directory has settled himself on my C: drive and in the My Documents directory but because this disk has not enough memory I can't handle GB+ files. I have modified the necessary registry settings to another drive but that don't seem to manipulate it; now, this is a real problem for me!

    someone have any suggestions?

Go to Preferences (bottom left Icon) and change your Working Folder to whatever Drive or Folder you wish.

    no, that doesn't work.

it's this directory you talked about in your earlier message:

'A point to note is that when you import a vob, DMF2 will place a muxed AC3 mpg in the files caching folder, usually in C:\My Documents\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\2.0\capture, which I've found very handy for later use. '

This is the reason I can't import a whole 4gb+ movie because my C: drive is only 3GB IN TOTAL, my E: drive 40GB, thus also the caches must go to the E: drive..... 'till now no success...

I have searched through .ini files, checked moviefactory's subdirectory but really nothing found which leads to this path or the creation of it.

I've found a workaround. I find it a bit primitive yet drastic but it works!

Just rightclick on the 'my documents', move the contents to another directory on the preferred drive and the cachefiles are automatically saved on that drive...

Yet wish Ulead made this cachedirectory location free to place anywhere instead of such a forced entry.

    Submat,

you know how you can import a movie with multiple chapters without moviefactory making a thumbnail for each chapter?

IAW: I want in the menu only 1 thumbnail under which the movie with (for instance) 20 chapters is located and so that the chapters in the stream keep working as normal.

I can't seem to find a good solution/workaround to this.
