Progressive Scan Question

Can my TV take advantage of progressive scan? It's a Sony VVega with:

16:9 Enhanced Mode
Component Video Input
3-Line Digital Comb Filter

I think so. However, the Wega/Vega TVs aren't HDTVs, and I believe progressive scan will look the best on an HDTV. However, I wouldn't avoid progressive scan if you plan on keeping the player in question for a very long time-- as in you might be buying a new TV that might be an HDTV before a new DVD player.

With the Wega/Vega... I don't think you'll see much improvement-- I mean, over the improvement you'd normally see just based on the Wega/Vega technology itself.

If you TV support progressive then YES, otherwise NO.
Both TV and DVD players have to match to get best picture quality.
I just had it and the quality improvement is extremely obvious (using the same commercial DVD movie).

I have an HDTV compatible TV. I use component video. do i need to change any configuration settings either in the TV or in the DVD player to use progressive scan? Noone at Best Buy has any clue about progressive scan (other than just to tell me if the DVD player has this capability or not).

I dont know if I am getting the best out of my DVD player & TV. How do I know if I am using progressive scan?

My video on the TV looks the same (with or w/o progressive scan). Pls help.

Its quite possible that your TV will accept a Progressive scan input but it is unlikley that it will display it as progressive scan and will probabl re-interlace the incoming signal, thus losing the quality advantages prog scan supposedly has.

A raw exclusive test is to pause a frame of credits (typically white text on black). Look for the Interlace flicker. Flicker indicates interlaced TV/Source. No flicker doesn't mean it's progressive. Kind of like a blood paternity test, it doesn't prove, only dis-proves.

16x9 enhance mode kicks ass on wegas...... it looks very close to HDTV all the interlacing lines dissapear only works on anamorphic dvds though ...... im very happy with it
