  1. Just wondering out of curiousity what you set your min bitrate to when re-encoding a dvd movie.I set my min bitrate to 3000.If i have to encode a movie where the avg. is about 3500 - 4000 i might set the min down to 2500.(have'nt come to that yet)

  2. Typically you want to set it as low as your standalone will go without freaking out. I've heard most often that 300 is a good minimum and have always had very good luck using that so I haven't played around too much.

  3. I noticed that you placed this in the dvd to DVD-R index, so I am guessing that the ultimate goal is to move the DVD down to DVD-R. I use a product called DVD2SVCD and use CCE 2.5 to encode two movies to fit onto 1 DVD-R.

What I actually do is change the CD size on DVD2SVCD to 2200 (2200x2 will fit onto 1 DVD-R), close GOP's in advanced settings and do 2-3 passes VBR.

By doing that DVD2SVCD sets the bitrate to optimize for a 2200 size CD I have done a number of DVD's this way and have been VERY please with the result (I then author in movie factory 2).

  4. I also use DVD2SVCD. I set the min to 300, max to 8500 and avg to 4500. Good results, quality looks perfect.

  5. So most of you set your min. to 300.So you guys think my min. of 3000 is abit high.I set it to that as i used to set my svcds to a min of 300 so i thought for dvds i should set it higher.Aint had no probs though, very good quality.

As others have said, the lower the min the better as long as you don't run into playback problems, and realisiticlly you probably never will.

Even if you set your min to 0, with averages around 3.5-4mbits your min will still rarely drop below 1Mbit. I've checked many DVDs in bitrateviewer and the results are always the same. During the ending credits the bitrate dips down to about 1mbit, so I would say that when encoding DVD you should at the VERY least set your minimum this low. I always just set my min to 0.
