  1. What is the maximum Data Size setting you can use under Customize disc and still be able to burn on a DVDr with Instant Copy doing the burning? I have seen a few guides showing the setting for IC7 at 4.32, 4.37, and 4.7. What have you used with success?

  2. If you look at the topics, I posted the same question just yesterday. Hopefully, we will get some replies...

  3. I missed that one. The setting can be up to 4.7 GB, but to be a little safe, you would use 4.66 or 4.67gb data size with the F5 key. I will try this over size setting this weekend. Thank you for your help.

  4. this doesnt offer that much help...
i have seen in a bunch of posts people saying that setting the slider to 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 will result in a set of files smalle enough to fit on a dvdr. this isnt true. sometimes even a setting of 4.4 gB ends up being to large to fit on a dvd.
so far i just been setting to about 4.5 to start and going down from there until it fits. there are posts telling how to resize without encoding but it is too involved for the benifits...opportunity cost i guess.
BTW, i have changed the registry settings as i have seen many times in this forum. it looks like until the next version comes out, we are just going to have to deal with a little wasted space. i far enjoy using ic7 to any other software. i used tmpgenc for a long time doing svcds before i got my dvd burner and now i dont even open it up...for the job that ic7 does, its just not worth it.

  5. I don't think there's any real way to determine how big the output files will be. The size indicator in Instant Copy just doesn't work. I've done films where the indicator has been set on over 5gb and it's still come out around 4.35gb. On the other hand I've had a 4.97gb set of input files come out at 3.3gb with a setting of 99%. WTF? I've given up trying to find any pattern to how it works so I just make a guess, note down the figure and encode it again if it's too big or small. The encoding quality in IC7 is very nice so I don't mind too much.

the setting you use all depends on the format of the DVD you are using and the amount of video (not audio) you are trying to reduce and how much you are allocating it

and the reg settings will also have an effect on the setting but it's best you change the DVDSaveQuality to 0 so IC does not reserve any space at all

there are simple methods and important checks to do before using IC so that you get results of around 4.37Gb on the majority of occasions and the times you don't there are quick fix methods if it's a little under/over (as little as 5-10mins)

this simple method assumes you have checked the DVD and that IC shows the true size and also that you have set your DVDSaveQuality reg setting to 0

set up IC so it predicts a size of 4.37GB then add 1% of the predicted VIDEO only (dont include audio/subs) to the 4.37Gb and this is what you can set your limit too. For other format DVD's add 2% of the predicted video size to 4.37Gb

anyone who got 3Gb or around that size from a DVD, it is because of the black bars within a 2.35:1 movie as shown HERE and there is no known fix

and if you wanna see more issues/solutions/what to check 1st regarding IC I suggest you use that link above and browse through the links at the bottom of the page before just jumping in and guessing a size and expecting IC to spit out a DVD of 4.37GB as it will help you greatly
