please can anyone tell me what the problem might be????
what should I do to fix that??? please..... -
Can you be a bit more specific?
What program are you using to extract subtitles? With which program are you trying to add them to the video stream? Is the delay linear (e.g. is every subtitle delayed by a fixed amount of time) or is it stretching? The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -

hi will I downloaded the subtitles file from the net...
whenI play it on the pc(vobsub,, sub displyer) it is synch 100% every thing is fine.
the problem begin when I want to encode ...the output svcd
the subs or that they are late or early why??
the whole subs are early/late in same mount ???
AviSynth is the frame server that I use??Just laugh and life will reply laugh back for you -
i have the same problem: when i encode the subs in the .avi file with VirtualDub the subtitles appear few seconds earlier than they should
-
Edit the subs with SubtitleStudio. I always have to do a few tries before I get perfect sync in VirtualDub (haven't compared this to VobSub tho...). Just let VirtualDub play the movie for a while and see how subs and sound sync, adjust sub timing according to your findings with SS, save and make a new test run... Keep up until satisfied. Usually takes me 2-3 tries before I'm 100% satisfied.

and how do i save the file in .ssa format from SubtitleStudio?... there is only microdvd to choose(.txt)
-
Click the up/down buttons lower left (I know, It's hard to figure out!) until the top left bar say Convert. Select output format, then click on convert.

ok, i did all that and tryed the subs... in subtitleStudio it works great, but in Vdub its like that: i manage to sync the first subtitle, but the others then get messed up...a subtitle is on screen too long, its not just at the wrong time
as it works on SubtitleStudio the subs are ok, is then something wrong with Vdub or what?? -
It could be that bad, that the subs aren't ripped for the same version of AVI that you've got. All you can do with subs is move them back and forth to make them start at the right point- if there are sync issues later on, you're pretty f*cked, if you don't want the trouble of manually syncing each line, and that's not a slight undertaking!

i solved the problem
it was the fps thing... i just opened the sub in Subtitle Studio, the fps was (by defeault??) 15, so i changed it to the fps of the movie, save as .ssa and then encoded the subs with SubMux(which is few hoursfaster than VirtualDub) to then convert with tmpgenc
strange thing tho... the subs were playing perfect(before changing fps) in the preview in Subtitle Studio as well as with BSplayer -
Most (?) subtitleformats are "timing locked" to frame numbers - these have to be made for / converted to the correct frame rate. SubStation Alpha (.ssa) sub titles are "timed to time" so no matter what frame rate, they will always be in sync (if they are in the first place). That's why it's important to use the correct frame rate when converting to/from .ssa!

I use fddshow as divx/xvid codec. Fddshow has a subtitle future (so you don't need vobsub). After activating the subtitle future, just encode with tmpgenc... the resulting m2v file will contain the subtext. Can save you some time.
-
blacardi:
how do i install fddshow and how do i choose subs for the movie?
why the resulting m2v file?? cant i make mpg files as usual?
and.. are there any problems with xvid??
thanx -
Usual way: Deinstall ALL DIVX/XVID codecs. Reboot. Install FDDSHOW. Reboot. "Start" => "program files" => "fddshow" configuration". Here you can tell fddshow to use the subtitles!
Subtitles (.srt) should be in same folder and should have the same name (except the extension) as the movie.
Now encode using tmpgenc the usual way.
The only problem i have with it (maybe someone have a solution for this);
When i open any xvid movie in Vdub.... it gives me a codec problem... Just don't know how to tell vdub that fddshow is the codec to use.
You can make a mpg file with tmpgenc, but i was advised not to use tmpgenc for audio purpose. I guess you can use it, when using external encoder (like 2lame). -
blacardi: does fddshow make subs good with xvids as well, or just divx?
mats: why can't i see any text(when i load a sub file) in SubtitleStudio no more, this is the 2nd time... is the only solution to re-install?? -
No idea why you see no text when you load a .sub file. I try to use .ssa only, and after some initial problems with my first install of SubtitleStudi, it has worked OK, even if I wish it was more intuitive...
