Can I capture digital cable signals directly to vcd format using AIW Radeon? Digital cable is already Mpeg2 so will the card convert it to mpeg 1? Will the quality be any better than from a coaxial cable? Thanks

The DC signal is compressed in MPEG-2 (I have Time Warner here), but unfortunately, the stream is decoded and is converted to analog by the time you get it out of your cable box. So to answer your question, yes you will be re-encoding it into MPEG-1 (or 2), but you'll be coming off of an analog stream (even though it started out digital). It will still be a bit better than a cap coming off of regular analog cable though b/c the high frequency rolloff that occurs w/ regular RF cable will only occur from the box down (and not from the street feed down).
