  1. jerky playback and audio out of synch on finished DVD.
I am converting downloaded AVI's into MPEG2 with TMPGEnc.
the MPEG2 seems to play fine in windows media player, and play fine in DMF2 preview, but not on my standalone DVD player. (Panasonic RV32)
Im also getting an error on DMF2 which says something like "some of the chapters exceed the total number of frames" - does anyone know a workaround for this yet?

    here are some details.
    System - P2.5, 512ddr, WinXP pro, 40g HD
blank media is bulkpaq generation 3(R2) dvd-r (1x speed)
I am using virtualdub to find out the correct framerate, 23 or 25 fps etc.
I am using TMPGenc to convert the video/audio of the AVI to MPEG2
everything seems fine at this point.... until I load/use DMF2 !!!
I have been burning the movies without chapters, to avoid the error, but still getting jerky playback/audio synch probs.
    Any suggestions?

Check the field order that you have set when encoding with Tmpeg. If you have it set to even when it should be odd (or visa-versa) then you will get jerky playback on the TV (it will look ok on the computer though.)

  3. The "field order" is greyed out on page 2 of the TMPGEnc wizard, so i cant change it there, but on page 3/5 on the wizard, in advanced settings, it allows me to change it. I have 2 options - Top field first (field a) or Bottom field first (field B)
how do I know which one to choose? it is currently set to field A, so I suppose I'm gonna have to try field B, and see what happens. obviosly its gonna take some time to encode/author - I'l let u know.

It probably too late now but you could try encoding just a small part of video and test it out to see if the field order change effects anything. Anyway, keep me posted if it works or not.

  5. I did a bit of reading in the forums and found this solution by antoniosgubba - https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148311
and now I have a perfect DVD. No jerks or stutters, and the lipsynch is good. it takes a bit longer than the method I was using, but it works great. thanks a lot antoniosgubba, if you read this (thanks lance also for taking the time to reply)
