Help Guys (and Girls) I am trying to backup a Region 1 dvd so I can watch it downstairs on my standalone dvd player (not region hackable) and as the title sugests Smartripper is not removing the region coding even though the box is ticked. I am even going through the latest version of DVD2ONE which should also take region coding out (I think it does anyway) even though Smartripper claims to take this off. Can anybody Help me?
Top site by the way Keep up the good work!

    Thanks in advance

  2. 1) Rip the full DVD (all files, in smartripper you can do this in backup mode) to your HD

    2) Run IFOEdit and open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file for the DVD

    3) Click on 'make region free' and save changes (ie. the new IFO file).

    4) Do whatever you normally do to the VOB source

Note that ANY DVD-R should be region free (after you burn it) unless you make a straight 1:1 ISO image file copy with DVD Decrypter. So just run as normal, and burning should be fine. Doesn't DVD2ONE generate a new VIDEO_TS folder to burn? [i don't use the program so...]

Thanks a bunch Mate, I will try that tomorrow for sure. I'm still a bit of a newbie so forgive me if it was an obvious thing to overlook.
I usally create a FULL BACKUP using Smartripper, then if its a 9 I got through DVD2ONE if its a 5 I just create a new DVDVIDEO in Nero and drop it into the Video_ts folder.
To answer your question Yeah DVD2ONE does create a new Video_ts folder.

    Thanks Again.

Just out of Interest, does anybody know WHY smartripper doesn't take the region coding off?
Is this the same with Macrovision e.t.c? Just as an afterthought the latest version of DVD2ONE is brilliant, You can now copy a full dvd9 (dual layer) disk with all the extras, deleted scenes, trailers e.t.c onto ONE dvdr even with a 1x disk the whole process from start to finnish is under 2 hours.
