I was pondering the idea of purchasing the new 8X Plextor DVD+/- Drive.
From what I have been reading, it looks as if the drive will burn 8X speed on certain brand 4X media.
I really hate bulk-brand and generic name media, so I won’t even think of getting any.
Does anyone know, or better yet, had successful results with this drive burning at 8X Speeds?
If you have burned successfully at 8X, what brand of media did you use, and what speed was that media certified for?
As it stands right now, I have been purchasing DVD+R media by TDK, Fuji Film, Memorex, Verbatim, and Maxell.

Same here. Got some DVD+R in microcenter, and Nero burned at 8x.. Now I even verify the DVD files after completion, to make sure the backups are OK.
I got 60 DVD+R for like 77. I pick them up in the store. I got the drive in amazon, it costs 258+free shipping and you get 50 credit back in few weeks. -
8x on TDK, Memorex, Fuji and Verbatim. No coasters, all play fine. An excellent drive.

I have a PX-708 coming from Newgg. Check out CompUSA for disks, go to their web site and print out the coupons. They have a 40% off for all Memorex DVD media (in-store pickup only). A cake of 50 4x is only $60 with the coupon. Plus they have 3 packs of the DVD+RW 4x for 12 (8 with the coupon).
